After Oracle Corporation acquired Sun Systems in January 2010, oracle made a few upgrades and changes on the Sun Netra series. On May 18, 2010 Oracle announced the launch of the Sun Netra 6000. The Sun Netra 6000 was delivered to curb the need of the ever growing demand for mission critical business platforms. It possesses a high availability capability which is ideal for today’s growing demand for efficient data and media services delivery while offering carrier grade features like the NEBS (Network Equipment Building System)

The Sun Netra T6340 is one of the popular server modules that came in the Sun Netra 6000 modular systems. This server module comes with two UltraSPARC T2 + processors. It runs the Solaris OS and can hold an Oracle memory of up to 256 GB with 32 DIMM slots. With the availability and reliability capabilities, the Sun Netra T6340 is ideal for data centers with the most demanding workloads. They also offer a great serviceability and upgradability, greatly lowering the total cost of ownership.

Another remarkable change Oracle corporation made was renaming the Sun Netra carrier grade x86 systems. The Sun Netra carrier grade systems are mainly ruggedized servers meant for Military customers and service providers. They are basically designed for telecommunication services. The Sun Netra x86 systems that were renamed include the Sun Netra X4270 M3 and the Sun Netra X6270 M3.

The Sun Netra X4270 M3 was renamed as Netra Server X3-2. The Sun Netra Server X3-2 offers a great scalability and reliability that makes it perfect for cloud deployments and usage in 4G networks. Operational management systems, billing systems and Telco IP networks support are some of the main applications of the Sun Netra X3-2 servers. With two Intel Xeon E5-2560 processors and 24 DIMM Sun memory slots the Sun Netra X3-2 beats previous server generations by more than 2 times in speed.

Features of the Sun Netra X3-2 servers include;
• 10 Gigabit onboard ports that help get more network bandwidth with less cabling while availing other I/O slots for other connections.

• Up to 8 storage device drives allowing 8 2.5 inch Serial attached SCSI (SAS) disks. Two times higher than the previous generations.

The Sun Netra X6270 M3 was renamed as Sun Netra Blade X3-2B. The Sun Netra Blade X3-2B presents Sun Netra 6000 chassis’ unique I/O architecture. Like the Sun Netra X3-2, the Netra Blade X3-2B are ideal for cloud deployments and support services over IP. They are also perfect for military and defense applications as their main applications include signaling gateways and call control support.

Features of the Sun Netra Blade X3-2B servers include;
• Ability to individually configure blades through the PCIe Express Module.
• Simplified management through an integrated tool that can be access across the network
• High availability and performance through an efficient network infrastructure.
• 24 DIMM Sun memory slots.

Both servers can hold up to 2 Intel Xeon E5-2600 processors and availing 16 cores per system. They also have both AC and DC hot-swappable redundant power supplies and Oracle integration Lights Out Manager (Oracle ILOM) manageability.
