What is the difference between Cisco Approved and Third Party memory?

Cisco Approved memory is manufactured by an OEM on Cisco's Approved Vendor List. Third Party memory is manufactured to exactly the same specifications, but not by an OEM on Cisco's AVL.

What is the difference between Sun Original and Third Party memory?

Sun Original memory is manufactured by Sun or their OEM partners. Third Party memory is manufactured to exactly the same specifications, but not by Sun Microsystems or their selected OEM partner.

Will using third party memory invalidate my Cisco SMARTnet warranty?

In short, no.

The Federal Trade Commission, in 1975, passed an Act that governs all consumer warranties called the Magnusson-Moss Act. Part of this act outlaws 'tie-in' sales provisions of the type 'All replacement parts must be genuine 'ABC' parts or the warranty is void' or 'In order to keep your new Plenum Brand Vacuum Cleaner warranty in effect, you must use genuine Plenum Brand Filter Bags. Failure to have scheduled maintenance performed, at your expense, by the Great American Maintenance Company, Inc., voids this warranty.' (Magnuson-Moss Act, Title 15, United States Code, Section 2302, subdivision (c).

Here is one case that specifically shows an OEM computer maker's 'tie-in' provision to be illegal:
"The essential characteristic of an invalid tying arrangement lies in the seller's exploitation of its control over the tying product [here, the computer system] to force the buyer into the purchase of a tied product [here, the memory module sold by the system manufacturer] that the buyer either did not want at all, or might have preferred to purchase elsewhere on different terms. When such "forcing" is present, competition on the merits in the market for the [memory module] is restrained and the Sherman Act is violated."
Jefferson Parish Hospital District No. 2 v. Hyde, 466 U.S. 2 (1984).

The warrantor (Cisco in the case of SMARTnet) may only withhold warranty service if it's proven that the defect or product fault is attributed to third party memory or transceivers. The mere use of third party parts, in itself, will not void your warranty.

What about 4gb or smaller server memory modules?

PC Wholesale no longer carries 4gb and smaller modules because we had an extremely high return rate associated with selling small quantities of 4gb or smaller modules, almost exclusively due to customer error.

We can still source and sell modules 4gb or smaller in quantity of 10 or more. If you need a larger quantity of 4gb or smaller modules, please contact us with your specifications by email or phone at 877-623-2373 for a prompt and competitive quote.

Ordering and Return Questions

Do you accept purchases via purchase order?

We can grant terms to corporations or other large organizations purchasing with a purchase order. Prior to acceptance of purchase orders, organizations must fill out our credit application [link] or send their established bank & trade information for our approval. Please contact us directly for more information.
PC Wholesale automatically gives a 10% discount and grants Net30 terms to all educational and governmental institutions.

I want to return my purchase. What do I do?

Contact us by email or phone at 877-623-2373. Any purchase may be returned for money back within 30 days of purchase, minus a 20% restocking fee. Shipping and handling fees are non-refundable.

How do I change or cancel my order?

Please contact us as soon as possible. Most orders ship the same day as we receive the order, but if contacted before shipping we can always cancel it or make changes.

My organization is tax exempt. How can I make sure I'm not charged tax?

Please contact us if you have a special tax exemption.

I received a defective part. How do I get a replacement?

Contact us by email or phone at 877-623-2373 and we will replace it. We can send out a replacement in advance of receiving the defective part in most cases. We even pick up the shipping on returning the defective parts back to us.

You offer a lifetime warranty? Really? What's the catch?

Yes, all memory, cables, and transceivers are covered by our industry leading lifetime warranty. If, at any point in the life of the part, it becomes defective, return it for an immediate and free replacement. There is no catch, no complication, and no hassles. We'll even pick up the shipping on returning the defective parts back to us. Hard drives and processors are covered by a 90 day warranty, but the hassle free process for replacement is the same.

PC Wholesale ships by USPS Priority Mail and Federal Express. If you require a specific shipping method beyond those, please contact us to arrange.
