Sun Workstation Memory

Sun Workstation memory comes in various forms such as Sun Blade Memory, Sun Fire Memory, Enterprise System Memory, UltraSPARC Memory, and Netra. Sun Blade Memory features many different sizes from 128 MB to 512 MB. The memory is also sold according to the MHz it possesses. The Sun Blade 100 500MHz for example, is a server that utilizes Sun Workstation memory and has 2 GB maximum memory, 4 individually installed memory slots, but does not feature non-removable base memory. The memory can be manufactured by various companies such as MemoryTen, Samsung, Micron, Kingston, or Toshiba and is compatible with Sun Blade 100 and 150.

Sun Fire memory is another Sun Workstation memory product that is available. It too is sold according to MHz and is used in a wide range of Sun servers such as: Sun Fire 12K with CPU 900MHz, Sun Fire 280R SCSI RAID Controller, Sun Fire 6800 (750MHz) and Sun Fire 6800 (1.2GHz) just to name a few examples. Sun Fire memory can be purchased individually, or as part of a kit such as the Sun Fire/Sun Microsystems Original Memory Kit for example. This kit features 4 1 GB memory pieces for a total of 4 GB total memory. Each piece features PC100 ECC SDRAM and is ROHS compliant.

The Enterprise System Memory line of Sun Workstation memory is meant to be used with the Sun Microsystems Enterprise line of Sun servers such as the E150, E250, the Enterprise E220R SCSI RAID Controller, E3000, all the way to the E10000. The E10000, or Sun Ultra Enterprise 10000, features a maximum of 64 GB Maximum memory and a total of 512 memory slots divided over 16 CPU boards. The memory usually comes in kits of 8 pieces of 128 MB memory for a total of 1 GB. Each piece features 128MB buffered FPM 60ns DIMM as well as the unique Sun Systems barcode for warranty and service use.

The last two Sun Workstation memory products to be discussed are the UltraSPARC memory and the Netra. The UltraSPARC is an RISC microprocessor which was originally developed back in the 80s. It can contain over 128 general purpose registers at a time. The Sun Netra is a brand of Sun servers that usually feature the UltraSPARC brand of processor. In fact, a single Netra processor may contain 6 or even 8 UltraSPARC possessors each with 8 threads per processor core.
